1954: eight houses and one road
The idea for this route was not born here. It was born in France, seventy years ago, along the Nationale 7.
In 1954, eight owners of independent inns along the Nationale 7, the road that carried France on holiday, asked themselves a simple question: what if we recommended one another?
None of them could afford advertising alone. None wanted to give up their independence, their name or their way of receiving guests. What they shared was something else: houses with character, personal hospitality, and the wish that the traveler sleeping in one would discover the next.
They did not create a chain. They created a route. Over the years, that idea grew into the story of Relais & Châteaux. But what interests us is not what it became; it is how it began: independent owners who discovered that together they could create something that did not exist separately.
Seventy years later, on the peninsula, three houses asked themselves the same question. This route is the answer.
